The Archipelago exhibition, but what is it ?
Archipelago is the name given to this exhibition of works from Jean-Jacques Lebel's Endowment Fund : From Marcel Duchamp to Francis Picabia or Yoko Ono, via Victor Hugo, Max Ernst or André Breton. This exhibition highlights major themes (madness, eroticism, revolutions ...) and pays tribute to many artists.
Who is Jean-Jacques Lebel?
Jean-Jacques Lebel is an emblematic figure of the artistic scene since the 1960s. He is particularly known to be the first organizer of happenings in Europe.
The Museum of Arts of Nantes maintains a close relationship with this artist who already proposed in 2014 the exhibition "Presenting the unrepresentable" that the museum has organized at the Hangar à Bananes. This was followed by the "Itineraries" exhibition, presented at the Nantes Museum of Arts in 2017.
In concrete terms, what is the Endowment Fund?
The Endowment Fund was created in 2013 by Jean-Jacques Lebel. This Fund brings together a collection of works, the result of donations from artists and exchanges with creative friends. To date, it is composed of more than 1,000 works. Its primary goal is the conservation and promotion of these works.
The Fund's activities include designing and developing exhibitions, publications and cultural events.
