Les Machines de l'île in Nantes
Don't leave Nantes without discovering the Machines of the Isle, just a 15-minute walk from the hotel!
Located on the site of the former shipyards of Nantes, the Machines of the Isle is a surprising journey into an imaginary world that will delight both young and old. Here you’ll find the "invented worlds" of Jules Verne, the mechanical universe of Leonardo da Vinci, and of course the industrial history of Nantes. A truly exceptional place!
Ready, set, go! The Great Elephant takes 50 passengers on board 12 meters up for a unique ride! Then there’s The Branch, a prototype of the Heron Tree, a monumental structure where you can wander through incredible hanging gardens from branch to branch.
The Gallery of Machines reveals everything about the creation process of the strange creatures that inhabit the island. The Marine Worlds Carousel, a 360° theater over three levels, immerses visitors in the heart of the marine world. The workshop of the La Machine company: the public can watch the builders at work and also attend street performances and a film screening about the Machines of the Isle...
The story of the place itself tells the tale of Nantes, once a major hub of naval shipbuilding until 1987. These vast iron, concrete, and steel halls, built in the early 20th century, housed the heavy boiler workshops of the Chantiers de la Loire, dedicated to equipping ships until their final closure.
Duration of visit: about 1 hour 30 minutes.
You can book your tickets directly at the reception of the Best Western Hôtel Graslin Nantes Centre!
