Nantes, the islands and the Loire, are the cradle of the work of Jules Verne. Nantes was the source of the dream and inspiration of the Extraordinary Voyages. The hustle and bustle of the Quai de la Fosse, the call to elsewhere, the Jardin des Plantes and the exotic wealth of Nantes' plant heritage. All these elements have lastingly marked Jules Verne.

Since 2005, the esplanade Jean Bruneau has been hosting a statue of Jules Verne as a child, sitting facing the Loire, looking at his future captain Némo, taking stock of his sextant.
